Thank you for the list. May I ask, can this new series be watched as a standalone or must I start first somewhere in the middle of that list to understand it? I think the only Tenchi Muyo I've ever watched was the movie with Ifurita (I know, I've been living under a rock...)

I would not. I would watch the others on the list before this series. You can wait til this one finishes and watch it before you watch War on Geminar if you choose because this one still takes place before War on Geminar.

DUAL! PARALLEL TROUBLE was nice. but fake Tenchi. and weird out NGE parody.

Tenchi Muyou GxP is essentially a spin-off of Tenchi Muyou featuring a different protag though Tenchi does appear occasionally in it. This aired... a very long time after Tenchi Muyou GxP though and I have not watched this episode yet so I can't say. But if you want the full experience, and know who characters are, i would say watch GxP series in its entirety. It also ties in to the later seasons of Tenchi Muyou and the events prior to Saint Knight's Tale.

Edit: not even a minute in, yes, definitely watch all of the original GxP series first! This is a new series with different style but it takes place after that series ends

If you have any aversion to harem though, or characters male or female who appear younger than they are, like so many whine about in recent years, avoid all of the mentioned series'.

it all started with some anime-original, no source material, disk-only OVAs way back in the 1990's. the chronological order watchlist isn't that hard to find online. don't use that Vash person's list... it is filled with errors. The Tenchi-verse as the franchise is called is one of the cornerstones of anime history.

It's not that old ;'D, it's just less popular than the current dragonball, gundam and berserk. Those are pretty much manga people read a few decades ago.

So in every way, Tenchi is classic original anime, and was what inspired me to learn to read faster, so i could enjoy the show without pausing to read.

Yeah, sorry to say it is "not that old", i am referring it being not too old to watch which is about the art style over all (like one in 1960s which is just too difficult to comprehend). People really easy to get a bit touchy nowadays.

Timeline wise they're still prepping Kenshi for War on Geminar.

Didnt watch any season of Ryouki, but watched everything else Tenchi related multiple times.

Watched the first half of this episode and am completely lost.
Think i might just read the LNs before watching this completely.

this one happens before War on Geminar and just SLIGHTLY before the 4th season of Ryouki. it also seems to intertwine slightly inside S4 as well. frankly, i suggest re-starting from the beginning OVAs in 1992 and finishing GXP Ep26 (the finale) BEFORE trying this one. SKIP Geminar entirely since it happens AFTER Ryouki S5 finale. The Tenchi-verse timeline is damned complex and confusing. :)

ok im a bit lost in prep for this i went back and watched tenchi universe, tenchi muyo ryo ohki, and gxp. i dont recognize any of seinas harem in this and while the original gxp followed the ryo ohki storyline it had the designs and names from universe but this seems to have the designs and story from ryo ohki.

No milf action today boys, better luck next ep.

I'm sometimes blown away with how popular this universe is. Anytime I see something relevant to Tenchi I get throw back feels to the original episodes. I can't remember if it was toonami or Adult Swim that I originally saw it on. Either way, Good to see another season getting added to the collective.
